Hi, I have a Windows 2012 R2 server, the one with no GUI(headless, main window launched by sconfig.cmd). There are some broadcom drivers that need to be updated. I downloaded winb57x64-17.2.0.2.zip from extracted the files to a folder.
The files are: b57nd60a.cat b57nd60a.inf b57nd60a.sys Now how do I check the existing broadcom network driver version and update it with the latest one that I have downloaded? I did some searching and come up with: corefig pnputil -i -a But these utilities are mainly for installing new drivers. What about updating? I cannot run the device manager remotely from computer management on the hyperv host because I get an error and will not connect.
Can someone show me how to do this? I wish that MS would have some documentation on how to do this, I could not find any. Best regards Alfred56.
' Tim, I do not believe you can install the GUI on the 'FREE' Hyper-V 2012 R2 server.' No you can't.
But in your opening post you stated you 'have a Windows 2012 R2 server, the one with no GUI', which implies a core installation. You did not state you have Hyper-V Server until now. And, because of your statement I made a qualified response 'If you are truly running Windows Server 2012 R2 Core, then you can temporarily install the GUI'. Issue the command 'pnputil -e' and you will get a list of all drivers and their versions. Pipe the output to a file 'pnputil -e drivers.txt' and you can scan for your particular driver to find its version.: :.: :. If you are truly running Windows Server 2012 R2 Core, then you can temporarily install the GUI, install your drivers, and then remove the GUI. A quick search of TechNet will turn up many articles on how to do this.

See for information on how to install the GUI. Here's another one - You also might want to contact Broadcom for their instructions on how they recommend updating their drivers.: :.: :. Pnputil -i -a knows what to do. Use pnputil -e before and after, and you'll see the changes. The Broadcom graphical installers work on both Hyper-V Server and Windows Server Core.
Eric Siron I am an independent blog contributor, not an Altaro employee. I am solely responsible for the content of my posts. Hi, Thanks Tim and Eric for your replies. Tim, I do not believe you can install the GUI on the 'FREE' Hyper-V 2012 R2 server. Eric, I cannot find a graphical installer for the Broadcom drivers.
The driver is a set of 3 files and will need to be installed via pnputil. I wanted to check the driver's version first(before update) and Broadcom provide a lot of examples on how to do this using the GUI which I knew how to use anyway. I even searched for a chipset utility but could not find one.
Maybe it will require a specific powershell command. I need to update these drivers since there is a known problem with Broadcom Netextreme 57xx NICs and VMQs., where network performance can be very dismal. Regards Alfred56.
